In Genealogy, It Helps To Start At The End

In many things in life, you need to start at the beginning to get to the end.  I have found however, that in genealogy, if you start at the end or start with you, then it is a more interesting journey.

Starting with what you know helps maintain your interest and prevents you from getting overwhelmed. Begin by writing down the names of your parents, grandparents, and other ancestors as far back as you can. These names can be used as the foundation for your search. Also, list the names of your aunts, uncles and other relatives, because depending on their ages, you may find their names instead of your direct line.

Be cautious when considering information added by others on various websites. It may not be your ancestors but due to common names, limited transportation and other factors, many people choose the wrong people and completely mess up their online tree. Always double check before you attach anyone to your tree.
